Since its inauguration on 4th August 1961, by Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The Govt. Girl’s Post-Graduate college, Rewa, (m.p.) has been moving from strength to strength. This college is the only educational institution of higher education exclusively for girls, with a hostel facility, in the Rewa district. The college is playing an active role in enlightening and empowering young women of this region. Since its inception in 1961, the strength of the college has increased from 26 to 5217 in the year 2018. The college is recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(b)-1/6/1972 and is affiliated with Awadesh Pratap Singh University (M.P.).
After being accredited B+ in its 1st cycle by the NAAC peer team in 2005. A tremendous amount of work has been done by way of infrastructural development, technological upgradation, curriculum upliftment, and faculty development, which resulted in the college being accredited with grade a in its 2nd cycle on 22nd Feb. 2017. The aim of the college is the acquisition, preservation and transmission of knowledge in a way which promotes national and rational outlook with a scientific temper among the girl students of the region.
The goal of the college also includes closer interaction between the institution and community in the interest of society.
The college is progressing rapidly along the path of institution building. Since its first accreditation by NAAC there has been tremendous progress in infrastructural development. Quality education has always been the hallmark of the college. The college is aware of the changes taking place in higher education at the present time.
The activities of the college are clearly indicative of the fact that the college is fast adapting itself to new challenges by undertaking multi-dimensional activities.
The college is located in the urban sector with a campus area of 14 acres and with an existing built-up area of 128300 sq. ft.
The history of the college with significant milestones since its establishment in 1961, by our honourable Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi. The college has moved along its path, passing from strength to strength, with the aim to revolutionize the face of society. Our institution recognizes the demand of the times and is determined to take a technological stance to encourage and motivate the power of youth towards a future that will welcome creativity, polish the personality of students and initiate potential growth.
As this is the only girl’s college in Rewa district with a catchment area spread over 90 km. in radius, the admission rate has increased manifold. The students come from urban, semi-urban, and rural backgrounds but almost all are from Madhya Pradesh. The dropout rate is nominal and this is mainly because of early marriage, opting for professional courses, and not because of any inherent weakness of the college.
The college has no academic autonomy as it is affiliated with A.P.S. University, Rewa, (M.P.). Being a government college, under the department of higher education, administrative and financial matters are governed by the rules and regulations issued by the government of Madhya Pradesh
The college has four faculties viz. Arts, Commerce, Home Science, and Science. It has twelve Post-Graduate and sixteen under-graduate departments. The A.P.S. University, Rewa has declared the college as a research center for girl students in eight different disciplines.
After the first cycle of accreditation self- finance courses were introduced both in the U.G. and P.G. sections. Sociology and Economics in P.G. and Biotechnology, B.Com., Computer Application in the U.G. section. There are plans for further inclusion of short-term vocational courses and other certificate courses for the benefit of female students in particular.
